Our approach

Quality, safety, standards. In that order.

Yetcon does not currently hold publishable ISO certificates. This page sets out the operational principles, named standards, and verifiable practices that the business runs on.

This page is written for procurement and technical evaluation officers assessing Yetcon's pre-qualification. Every claim below is defensible and verifiable on site. Where Yetcon is working towards full certification, this is stated explicitly.

Quality management

Yetcon's QA workflow is aligned with ISO 9001 quality management principles. A formal ISO 9001 certification programme is under preparation; this page will be updated when the certificate is issued.

Workflow

  1. Design review. Independent internal review of every set of structural and hydraulic calculations before construction begins. Third-party design review arranged where the contract requires separation of designer and contractor.
  2. Materials testing. Concrete cube tests at 7 and 28 days, steel mill certificates verified on delivery, aggregate grading and pipe materials tested to specification. Independent laboratory testing used where the client or funder requires it.
  3. Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). ITPs prepared per contract, with hold points agreed with the client's representative before mobilization.
  4. Independent third-party testing. Used as required by specification — for water-quality certification, hydrostatic pressure testing of pipelines, and geotechnical verification.
  5. As-built documentation. Drawings, test certificates, and operating manuals delivered at handover and archived for the defects liability period.

Health, safety and environment

Yetcon's brand is visible in the field through orange PPE and disciplined site practice. The HSE function is led by a named manager with a reporting line directly to the Managing Director.

Practices

  • Daily toolbox talks at site start of shift, addressing the day's specific hazards.
  • PPE enforcement. Hard hat, hi-vis, steel-toe boots, eye protection, and task-specific PPE (gloves, harnesses, respiratory) issued by the storeman and audited weekly.
  • Incident reporting. All incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions recorded and investigated. Lessons-learned circulated across active sites.
  • Environmental and social safeguards. Practices aligned with the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) and the AfDB Integrated Safeguards System (ISS) where applicable to the contract.
  • Community engagement. Liaison with kebele and woreda administrations before mobilization and throughout construction.

Technical standards

Yetcon's design and construction conform to the following published standards. Specific clauses are cited in tender submissions and design submittals.

  • EBCS — Ethiopian Building Code Standard, all relevant volumes.
  • Eurocode 2 (EN 1992) — Design of concrete structures.
  • BS 8110 — Structural use of concrete (legacy clauses where superseded by EN 1992 in the contract).
  • World Bank technical specifications for water supply infrastructure, where the contract is funded by the World Bank or follows its specification template.
  • AfDB technical specifications for water supply infrastructure on AfDB-funded contracts.
  • Ministry of Water and Energy design manuals and specifications for Ethiopian water-sector contracts.

Supply chain and local content

Yetcon is an Ethiopian company employing Ethiopian engineers and tradesmen. Local content is a default operating principle, not an add-on.

  • Sourcing. Preference for locally-manufactured HDPE/PVC pipe, reinforcement bar, and cement over imported equivalents, where quality and delivery schedules are competitive. Aggregate sourced at woreda level under permit.
  • Sub-contractor management. Pre-qualified sub-contractor list maintained for drilling, specialist concrete, electromechanical, and finishing trades.
  • Local employment. Typically 85–95% of unskilled and 60–70% of semi-skilled trades are recruited from the project woreda, with payroll records maintained for verification.
  • Skills transfer. Yetcon retains skilled tradesmen between projects, supporting a stable workforce rather than a per-project rehire model.
